The Duomo of Florence - Work in Progress

Just thought I’d do a quick post of what is currently on my easel. It is a 20"x20" sketch of the Duomo of Florence.

Florence's cathedral stands tall over the city with its magnificent Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi. The cathedral named in honor of Santa Maria del Fiore is a vast Gothic structure built on the site of the 7th century church of Santa Reparata, the remains of which can be seen in the crypt.

It is the fourth largest cathedral in the world. Visitors with the strength to climb the 463 steps (there is no elevator) to the top of the dome are rewarded with panoramic views of all of Florence.
